Kojido Jitsu was named after an island of the coast of Korea called Koji Island. It was founded by Grandmaster Pappasan Jack Stern in 1960 and taught exclusively at Paja Dojo from that point. Even the dojo name itself carries significance when Paja is turned around it is short for A Japanese system. The Dojo itself hosted some of the best Martial Artist in history such as the Great Grandmaster Mas Oyama , Sun J Park and many others. Pappasan had the opportunity to train in many different systems in several countries around the world and when founding Kojido Jitsu Could have chosen a multiple number of systems as it basis. Even with his Korean roots he still leaned more to the Japanese styles when founding it. The basis for Kojido Jitsu came from four major and very respected Japanese systems which are as follows Kano’s Kodokan Judo , Mas.Oyama’s Kyokushinkai Karate , Gogan Yamaguchi’s Goju ryu and Morei Uyshibas Akido. So what does this tell us about Kojido Jitsu ? One a lot of thought and training went into the process of founding this system for either of the systems that were chosen for the basis of it takes years to learn and a lifetime to master. And two all four of the system’s Kojido Jitsu was based on have withstood the test of time even after the passing of their great founders they have continued to grow. On January 12th 2009 Kojido Jitsu was officially recognized by the Florida League of Martial Artist and Grandmaster Pappasan was honored with the recognition of 10th dan for the founding of Kojido jitsu. In March 22nd 2012 Grandmaster Pappasan gave a letter to Shihan Dell Sharpe naming His “Dai Soke” and it’s with great honor I accepted. In November 2012 we lost our founder. With his passing we usher in a new generation dedicated to the same principles that Kojido Jitsu was founded on such as Honor, Respect , Discipline and Loyalty among others. Shihan Dell Sharpe is now the Soke of Kojido Jitsu and the system has come full circle. According to Japanese Tradition a system cannot be fully recognized until it has been inherited and the system is then passed from the Kaiso (founder) to the soke dai who then becomes Soke of said system. Shihan Dell Sharpe trained under Grandmaster Pappasan for close to four years in Kojido Jitsu and held a black belt in Taekwondo and a black sash in Tai-Chi prior to training with Grandmaster Pappasan and has since attained rank in Tai Tzu Quan , Modern Judo as well as Aiki Jujitsu along with inheriting Kojido Jitsu he is also one of the inheritors of WOMA (World Organization of Mixed Martial Arts) and in 2010 founded his own style based on the arts in which he has trained named Kobura Ryu Bujitsu . On August 3rd 2012 Kobura Ryu Bujutsu became a recognized system by the RSDKF ( Ryu Sakura Do Karate Do Federation ) founded by Kaiso Steven Hatfield at which time Sensei Sharpe was given a Kaisoship and on February 20th 2013 Kobura Ryu Bujutsu was also recognized by the AJKF ( American Japanese Karate Federation).formally the ( All Japan Karate Federation) On August 3rd 2012 Shihan Sharpe was Promoted to the rank of 5th Dan by Master Steven Hatfield and on Febuary 10th 2013 was named Kaicho Florida Director for the RSDKF. Grandmaster Pappasan placed a great deal of trust in Shihan Sharpe and he is Humbled and Honored to carry on his traditions and teachings. As well as expand Kojido Jitsu to new heights and spread it throughout the world. A Respected fellow martial artist once told me “Knowledge in any form is only good when shared” and Grandmaster Pappasan always said “It may not as some would say be the best system in the world but it will work for you”
